BeamNG.drive Review: This World Is Made for Driving Through

BeamNG.drive is an open world driving game. In it, you can go wherever you want, do the craziest tricks you can imagine, and play in the manner you want. There are no tasks to complete and no records to beat. So if you download BeamNG.drive for Windows, you’ll have these roads all yours.

Living on Wheels

It’s about driving. Get yourself a car, start it, and drive wherever you want. Though the vehicles are all fictional (requiring no license from actual manufacturers), the cars look very real – and so they behave! Most vehicles are available in numerous configurations for you to choose from. Despite a great garage, though, this game is mostly about driving – no matter where and why, just because you like it.

As for visuals, you won’t get tired with procedurally generated dull landscapes. The entire open world is hand-drawn and designed with love. The game doesn’t look photorealistic; it’s rather a Disney-quality cartoon, obviously not real, but very artistic.

When Cars Collide, Like You and I

While the developers focused on physics, it especially greatly shows in crashes. Every little detail in every vehicle has its size, weight, balance, and connection to others. It’s all modeled so realistically that collisions result in very convincing damage (luckily, with no casualties). The engine emulates crashes so well that you might even use these emulations if you write novels and screenplays to see the consequences of the behavior you describe.

There are mini-challenges like police chases, crash tests, races, and so on. The developers plan to introduce a sort of career for single-player roaming mode, but so far, it’s to be done.

The Most Realistic Controls

Like any video game for Windows, BeamNG.drive can be controlled with a keyboard and mouse, though it’s a bit complicated. A gamepad will seriously improve the feel; due to tactile feedback and freedom to move, you will enjoy that visceral feeling of driving the game provides.

But the best input method for BeamNG.drive is, of course, a wheel controller. It will deliver you the complete immersion, like you’re really at the steering wheel, driving your vehicle and focusing on the road, the display being your windshield.

If you have been considering purchasing a wheel controller, BeamNG.drive is the game that it makes sense with. Of course, you’ll enjoy it as well with Dust, Forza Horizon, NFS, American (or Euro) Truck Simulator, and others. But it might be BeamNG.drive that you enjoy the most, because of its physical touch.

Have You Ever Wondered How It Flies?

It’s the perfect game for those who likes just driving around, exploring places. In addition, there is another reason to install BeamNG.drive: here you can afford driving the way you never would in real life.
