Raft Review — Alone in the Ocean

Raft is a survival sim for PC. You’re stranded on a tiny raft that drifts from one ocean wave to another. Only your tenacity and creativity can help you stay alive, expand your Raft and fend off glutenous sharks and ravenous seagulls. Download Raft and survive the marine perils!

Infinite Blue

In Raft game, there’s just ocean around. So, there’s nothing much to evaluate in terms of visuals. Though sometimes, you run into tiny islands and abandoned rafts. These decorations, along with a few marine species you’ll deal with, look like plastic toys.

But with these meager decorations, the game chaperones a nice vibe of loneliness. When the sun is in its zenith, you feel like you’re on vacation on a private yacht. When it sets behind the horizon, the skies become crimson, evoking a bittersweet desire to have more company around.

Where Raft truly shines optically, is its underwater kingdom. Once you go scuba-diving, you’ll discover a whole universe of marine flora and fauna that can be pretty unpredictable and grumpy at times. But still enticing.

Form Rafts to Richies

You start on a little 2x2 piece of floating plank. This is your home now. And through sheer willpower and effort, you can turn your abject Raft into a whole floating palace with palms and an incubator for the seagull eggs.

Our Raft review reminds you: your best friend here is the hook. With it, you’ll fish for all types of resources: plastic, wood, scrap, copper, glass, and so on. Besides, with the hook, you can hustle for a handsome dinner and catch a few nutritious fishies.

Abandoned rafts are a great source of resources. On them, you can find materials to craft a Simple Purifier, Cooking Pot, Sprinkler, Scarecrow, Grill, etc. This will dramatically improve the quality of your survival.

Two biggest dangers of the game are seagulls and sharks. You can produce food yourself and grow the crops right on your floating fortress. Seagulls will raid your Raft, trying to steal the rich harvest, leaving some poop as a token of appreciation.

As for the sharks, they incessantly pursue the Raft. If you’ve been standing motionless for some time, they will attack it, damaging your vessel and trying to chew one of your limbs off. Spears generally help to deal with both dangers.

Crafty Raft

Raft full game is an indie project. A one-person project, to be precise. Therefore, it doesn’t require an infinite computational power to enjoy it. Raft specs are limited to just 3 GB of disk space. However, your RAM must have at least 8 GB.

Conclusion

If you download Raft, you’ll get a wonderful dish in the survival genre. It has a clever crafting system, a backstory that unfolds step-by-step, resource stashes that are so nice to ravage, and an electrifying feel of danger that makes you stay enterprising non-stop. So sharpen your spear and keep paddling!
